Pre-load opens on November 12, and our GTA 6 countdown shows the time left in your time zone. Rockstar posts its own news on Newswire (tag VI) and rockstargames.com/VI; Take-Two repeats dates in its quarterly reports. Entries below run newest first: date, what happened, who said it and a link to where they said it. Anything that came only from a leak is marked as such and never linked. If you want everything sorted by status instead of by date, our confirmed vs rumors board does that.

GTA 6 news in October 2026

October 15: the Launch Trailer and a Justice single

Rockstar released the Launch Trailer, "featuring new music from electronic duo Justice, composers of the original score from Grand Theft Auto VI". The post also points to the duo's new standalone single, "Flower in a Hurricane" feat. Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, which is on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album: pre-save on streaming services, vinyl or CD pre-order at gtavi-thealbum.com. Rockstar promised more on "the official score album" without giving a date, and closed the post with "Grand Theft Auto VI arrives November 19 to PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S". Status: confirmed, Newswire. All four official videos are compared on our GTA 6 trailers page.

October 13: a report of PC in early 2027

GamesBeat reported, citing four industry sources who asked not to be named, that Rockstar plans to release the PC version "within the first three months of 2027". Rockstar did not respond to GamesBeat before publication, and neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has announced a PC version; there is no Newswire post about it. Status: reported. What is known about PC: GTA 6 on PC.

October 11: no word on the newest leak

Rockstar and Take-Two have made no separate statement about the video that surfaced on October 8. Their last official comment on leaks is still the one from August 26. Status: confirmed by absence; we checked the full list of Newswire posts tagged VI.

October 9: Nintendo has nothing to announce for Switch 2

Asked about GTA 6 on Switch 2 in a Variety interview, Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard said it is "going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time" (GoNintendo). That is not a no. It is also not a yes.

October 8: six radio stations, podcasts and merch

Rockstar named six stations: Cocoteo FM, Back Country Radio, AfroBank FM, The Chamber 106.6, Flash FM and Dirty South Classics, with short previews on the official music page. On-demand podcasts are a first for the series, and you can listen on foot through earbuds connected to the character's phone. Rockstar calls the lineup "the biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio yet", so six is a first look, not the full list. Station by station breakdown: GTA 6 radio stations and music.

The same day a GTA VI collection went live in the Rockstar Store: T-shirts, caps, a Zippo, a money clip, tote bags, sticker sets, plus a wishlist feature. In GTA Online, GTA+ members got a free Pegassi Oppressor.

Also on October 8, a new unauthorized video from a work-in-progress build appeared online. That is a leak; Rockstar has not confirmed anything in it, and we do not describe or link it.

October 7: Xbox walks back the cloud story

Matthew Ball, Chief Strategy Officer at Xbox, wrote on X that the excitement had "led to some misreporting" and that "the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC" (Shacknews). Whether GTA 6 appears in Xbox Cloud Gaming at all, on consoles only, nobody has said.

IGN also published its full interview with Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North. By Inven Global's summary, he described a "criminal profile" that tracks how you play, police who remember your outfit, and car theft that needs tools for newer cars. Status: reported, a summary of an interview, not a Rockstar post.

October 6: the exclusivity report

The Verge's Tom Warren reported that Xbox had secured exclusive streaming rights to GTA 6 in Xbox Cloud Gaming (TechWiser recap). The next day Xbox denied the exclusive part. Keep this entry in mind next time a "GTA 6 on PC through the cloud" headline goes around.

Early October: final ratings appear

The ESRB lists GTA VI as Mature 17+, with In-Game Purchases as an interactive element, and Rockstar's site carries the same descriptors. By October 18 the regional PlayStation Stores showed PEGI 18 in the UK, USK 18 in Germany, R 18+ in Australia, CERO Z in Japan and ClassInd 18+ in Brazil; pegi.info itself has no GTA VI card. Status: ESRB confirmed, the other ratings confirmed by store listings. Every rating by country: GTA 6 age rating.

GTA 6 news in September 2026

September 29: 170+ animals and hurricanes

Game Informer's digital issue went live with a 14-page story, 12 new screenshots and interviews with Rockstar's lead designers. Two details stood out: Leonida has over 170 animal species, and the weather includes tropical storms and seasonal hurricanes. How often storms hit and what they change in play was not disclosed.

September 25: Game Informer cover

Game Informer revealed issue No. 382 with original Rockstar art of Jason and Lucia on the cover. The print copy is due "in the coming weeks".

September 24: a collector's box without the game

Rockstar opened pre-orders for the Vice City Collection box: 11 items, among them a 6-inch Macca the Gator figure, Oakley sunglasses, a New Era cap and a double-sided Leonida map poster. The game is sold separately. The box ships to arrive on November 19 while supplies last; Asia, Latin America and Australia were told to "stay tuned". The store page we opened showed no price, so we don't quote one.

September 17: the album, and a hint about PC

Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album: 34 original tracks with Atlantic Records, out November 19. The first six singles came from Yung Lean, Travis Scott, Morgan Wallen, Rauw Alejandro, Keith Richards and a CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso, PinkPantheress, Fred again.. and Etienne de Crécy collaboration. The music page now lists nine of the 34; the ninth is the Justice single from the October 15 post.

At Take-Two's shareholder meeting the same day, Strauss Zelnick said the "PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time" (Game Rant). He did not mention GTA VI on PC. What that does and doesn't mean: GTA 6 on PC.

September 8: launch-hour tables that Rockstar didn't publish

Fan tables of "15 unlock windows" spread, built from PlayStation Store timestamps that a fan site scraped. GadgetReview says plainly that Rockstar has not named regional times. Status: store data, can change.

September 2: Netflix numbers

Netflix Top 10 data, reported by Beebom: the Extended Look drew 31.1 million views in four days and ranked first among English-language films in 87 of 93 countries. Rockstar's YouTube upload reached 17 million in five days. Status: reported.

GTA 6 news in August 2026

August 28: no full first-person mode at launch

Outlets relayed Rob Nelson's words from a preview event: the game is "primarily built around a third-person view", with first person only when aiming some weapons (Beebom). Rockstar has not put this in a Newswire post, so it stays "reported".

August 27: the Extended Look premieres

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look aired on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET and on Rockstar's YouTube channel and site at 9 p.m. ET. Rockstar says it was "captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5". All four official videos side by side: GTA 6 trailers.

August 26: Rockstar on the leaks

Rockstar called the leaks "heartbreaking for our team" and said "this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time" (Game Informer). It described the game as "nearly there" and asked players to wait for November 19. This is the only official statement on the 2026 leaks so far.

August 20–21: Take-Two goes to court

Take-Two filed requests in the Southern District of New York for DMCA subpoenas to Microsoft and Discord, asking them to reveal account details, with a deadline of September 4 (Insider Gaming).

August 18: leaks begin

Unauthorized videos from a work-in-progress build started appearing online. That is a leak; Rockstar has not confirmed any of it.

August 7: Take-Two earnings

Take-Two's Q1 fiscal 2027 release kept November 19 and its $8.0–8.2 billion net bookings forecast. On the call, Zelnick called pre-orders "unprecedented and astonishing" without a number, and said "we do expect to support GTA Online going forward". GTA V passed 230 million units sold in.

August 6: the Extended Look is announced

Rockstar announced the Extended Look for August 27, on Netflix first and YouTube second.

Did Rockstar confirm the leaked footage?

No. Every item on this page carries one of three labels:

  • Confirmed: Rockstar, Take-Two, a platform store, a ratings board or Guinness said it, and we opened the page.
  • Reported: a major outlet published it and we opened that article, but Rockstar hasn't posted it itself. Interviews retold by a third site land here.
  • Leak: one sentence, no description of footage, no links. Rockstar has confirmed nothing from the August and October videos.

We don't post "insider" dates, budget figures without a filing behind them, or fan-made trailers.

What usually goes wrong when reading GTA 6 news

  • A retold retelling becomes "confirmed". The IGN interview with Rob Nelson reached most sites through other sites' summaries. Before quoting a detail, check whether anyone links the original or a Rockstar post.
  • Old dates come back. "Spring 2026" and "May 26, 2026" still sit in articles that were never updated. The only valid date is November 19, 2026.
  • A store template gets read as an announcement. The general Xbox hub page shows "Xbox One" and "Windows" badges as part of its layout. The actual store listing names one platform: Xbox Series X|S.
  • A launch hour gets treated as official. Store timestamps can shift. Rockstar has not posted one.
  • A report becomes a date. "PC in Q1 2027" comes from GamesBeat's anonymous sources, not from Rockstar, which has not announced a PC version.

For short answers to the most asked questions, the GTA 6 FAQ groups 35 of them, and every date with both delays is on the GTA 6 release date page. Everything else for the game lives on the GTA 6 hub, and the rest of our guides are in the guide library.
