How to use

  1. Use the chips to switch between phone and desktop sets.
  2. Press Download, or press and hold the picture on a phone and choose “Save”.
  3. On Android: Gallery → the picture → menu → “Set as wallpaper”. On iPhone: Photos → share → “Use as Wallpaper”.
  4. On Windows: right-click the file → “Set as desktop background”. On macOS: right-click → “Set Desktop Picture”.
  5. The arrow opens the full-size file if you want to crop it for an unusual screen.

Why these sizes

A wallpaper looks bad in two cases: when the file is smaller than the screen and gets stretched, and when the picture is busy exactly where the icons sit. Both are avoided here.
WhereFileFits
Phone1080×1920Full HD phones one to one, taller screens crop the edges
Desktop1920×1080Full HD monitors one to one, 2K and 4K upscale acceptably because the images are smooth
If your phone is taller than 16:9, the system crops the top and bottom — the compositions here keep the subject away from those edges on purpose.

Dark wallpapers and battery

On a phone with an OLED screen a dark wallpaper genuinely saves a little power, because black pixels are simply switched off. On an LCD screen the backlight is always on and the saving is zero. So take a dark background because it looks calmer and makes icons readable, not because of the battery.

Where else the pictures on this site come from

Every wallpaper here is drawn for this site, so you are not taking someone’s photo or a frame from a game. That matters for streamers and video makers: a screen recording with a random picture from the internet in the background can get a copyright claim, and this one cannot.

FAQ

Can I use them on a stream?

Yes. They are our own images, so a wallpaper visible in a recording will not cause a claim.

Is there a 4K version?

Not yet. The desktop files are 1920×1080; on a 4K screen they upscale acceptably because the images are smooth rather than detailed.

Are they really free?

Yes, and without sign-up. The only thing that is not allowed is reselling the files themselves.

Why is the middle of the picture empty?

On purpose. Icons, the clock and widgets live there — a busy centre makes them unreadable.

Will you add more?

Yes. Themes get added as the site grows; the avatar page next door is filled the same way.
