Team Name Generator

A team name has to fit on a scoreboard, sound right when a caster says it, and still be free on the tournament platform. Type a word your roster likes, pick a style, and the generator builds names around it — then copy the one that survives the group chat.

Everything runs in your browser. What you type is never sent to our server.

How to use

  1. Type a word the whole team agrees on — a city, an inside joke, the IGL's nickname. Leave it blank for fully random names.
  2. Pick a vibe: Serious for org-style names casters can say, Aggressive for FACEIT hubs, Funny for the Friday five-stack.
  3. Choose the game. CS2 and Dota 2 use Steam rules (Unicode allowed); Valorant and LoL run through Riot, where team names are plain text.
  4. Hit Generate until something lands. Star the candidates — the shortlist is stored in your browser so you can send it to the team.
  5. Paste the winner into the checker at the bottom to see where it fails a length or character rule before you register.

Team name limits by platform

Platforms are less consistent about team names than about player names, and most of them don't publish the rule. What is known:

WhereTeam name ruleNotes
Steam group / CS2 team tagGroup names up to 32 characters, any Unicode; in-game clan tag is short and drawn from the group abbreviationSymbols may render as □ in the CS2 scoreboard
FACEIT teamsLetters, digits and basic punctuation; length limit not published — keep under 20Names go through a profanity filter; taken names are rejected
Valorant PremierTeam name plus a short tag; Riot filters offensive words and impersonationExact length not documented by Riot — check in the client
Dota 2 (in-client teams)Team name and tag set in the client; Unicode acceptedTag is what shows on the minimap and scoreboard
League of Legends ClashTeam name and 2–5 character tagPlain letters and digits are safest
Discord server / roleUp to 100 charactersAnything goes; keep the server name matching the team name so people find you

Two practical rules that survive every platform: the short tag (3–5 letters) should be derivable from the full name — Ironveil → IRV, Rush B Cult → RBC — and the name should be pronounceable by a caster who has never seen it. "Xx_Sl4y3rz_xX" fails both.

Choosing a name the roster will keep

Teams rename far more often than players, usually because the name was a joke that stopped being funny or because it collided with an org that already exists. Three checks before you register: search the name plus "esports" to make sure it isn't a known org (using one gets you disqualified from some open qualifiers); say it out loud in a sentence like "and here come the …" — if it sounds wrong, it is; and make sure the tag isn't already used in the same league.

Mixed-case one-word names (Ironveil, Halcyon, Vantage) age best. Names built on a current meme age worst. Names with a real word plus a number (Orbit Five, Delta Six) sit in between and are the easiest to find free.

What makes ours different

Team-name pages usually give one static list. This one is a generator: your word goes into two-thirds of the results, five vibes change the word lists, and the per-game selector trims names to platform limits and flags forbidden characters with a red ✕. You get a shortlist that persists in the browser, a checker for any name you paste, and fancy fonts and frames for the games that allow them (Steam-based) while keeping plain text for Riot. No sign-up, no ads inside the tool, no "premium names". It cannot check whether a team name is taken on FACEIT or Riot — no public API — so run the name in the platform before printing jerseys.

Privacy

Word lists, patterns and platform rules ship with the page; generation runs in your browser and the shortlist lives in local storage on your device. Nothing typed is sent to a server.

FAQ

How long can a team name be?

It depends on the platform: Steam groups take 32 characters, Discord 100, FACEIT and Riot do not publish a number but reject very long names. Keep the full name under 20 characters and the tag at 3–5 letters and you will fit everywhere.

Can I use symbols in a team name?

On Steam-based games (CS2, Dota 2) yes, though some symbols show as □ on the scoreboard. FACEIT, Valorant Premier and LoL Clash accept plain letters, digits and basic punctuation only. The generator switches rules when you pick the game.

What makes a good esports team name?

Short, pronounceable, one clear image (Ironveil, Frostbound), a tag you can derive from it, and no existing org with the same name. Funny names are great for a ranked five-stack and terrible on a tournament bracket six months later.

Does the generator check if a team name is taken?

No — FACEIT, Riot and Steam have no public availability API. Generate a shortlist of three and try them in the platform in order.

Can I get Russian team names?

Yes, switch the alphabet to Кириллица. Cyrillic works on Steam-based games and Discord; Riot and FACEIT accept it for display in most regions but check the client.

Is it free?

Completely free, unlimited generations, no account.
