A clan name is two decisions, not one: the name people say out loud, and the tag that sits in front of every member's nickname. Read the table as a budget, not as a rule of style. A five-person squad in Free Fire with ꧁ABC꧂ in front of every name has spent 42 characters of shared identity to leave everyone with six. The alternative that costs nothing: put the team word in the Valorant tagline, in a Steam group, or nowhere at all except the tournament sheet.

Ninety seconds of naming craft

Two words maximum, one of them concrete. Ironveil, Storm Ravens, Late Lounge — a texture plus an object. Three abstract words in a row (Eternal Legacy Gaming) read as filler and shorten to nothing usable.

It has to survive the tag. Write the tag before you fall in love with the name. Halcyon Division is [HLC]; Rush B Cult is [RSH]; if the abbreviation is unpronounceable or already means something else, the name is not finished.

Say it at speed. Team names get shouted mid-round and read out by casters. Anything with a silent letter or a spelling trick ("Kryptik Gaming") gets mangled once and stays mangled.

Do not name yourselves after the meta. A patch-specific joke is funny for six weeks. Trade Kill Co. outlives Deadlock Mains by years.

Check that it is free where it matters. Tournament platforms and community leagues refuse duplicates, and a name already used by a known organisation is a rename waiting to happen.

Three habits that make tags work. Uppercase reads better than mixed case at kill-feed size. Square brackets are the safest wrapper across games, because decorative frames such as ꧁ ꧂ cost two characters and can be filtered on some platforms — the nickname symbols page shows which sets survive where. And a tag with a digit in it ([K9], [V2]) stays free far longer than three plain letters, which are essentially all claimed.

Rules you are actually bound by

There is no clan-name policy document, but the general naming rules cover the group name as well. The Garena Terms of Service state that if you select a User ID Garena finds offensive or inappropriate, it has the right to suspend or terminate the account. Hypixel's server rules list guild content in the same line as usernames, skins and item names under content that is not allowed. The reading is the same everywhere: a name is content, moderators treat it as content, and "it is just the clan tag" has never been a defence.

Two more that cost nothing to avoid: do not use the name or branding of a real esports organisation, and do not build a tag that impersonates staff ([ADMIN], [MOD]). Both get a squad renamed on sight in most communities.
