How to use
- Type a word your clan is about — a colour, an animal, a place, an inside joke. Leave it empty for random ideas.
- Pick a vibe: Cool for dark and serious, Pro for esports-style, Funny for friend squads, Cute for casual groups.
- Choose a frame to turn a name into a tag: [ ] and | | for CS2-style tags, 『 』 【 】 ꧁ ꧂ for mobile games. Select a game to see whether tag plus nickname still fits.
- Generate, save the shortlist with ☆, copy the winner. Vote in your group chat — the tag will be in front of everyone's name for a long time.
- Paste the tag as your nickname prefix, and check the "100 clan name ideas" section below if you want ready-made options.
Clan tags: formats and per-game rules
A clan tag is a 2–5 character abbreviation shown before the nickname. On PC it is usually square brackets — [NVX] Shadow — and mobile games prefer Unicode brackets that survive their filters: 『NVX』Shadow, 【NVX】Shadow, ꧁NVX꧂Shadow. The tag counts toward the nickname length in every game where you type it yourself, which is why short tags win.
| Game | How the tag works | Tag + nickname limit |
|---|---|---|
| CS2 | Set from a Steam group: Settings → Game → Clan tag, shows the group abbreviation on the scoreboard, separate from your Steam name | Steam name 32 bytes; the tag is not part of it — no exact published limit for the abbreviation, keep it short |
| Valorant | No clan system; the #tagline (3–5 characters) of the Riot ID is what teams share, or a prefix inside the 16-character game name | Game name 3–16 including any prefix |
| Free Fire | Guilds exist in-game; players also type brackets into the 12-character nickname — that counts against the limit | 12 characters total; guild name limits not verified — check in game |
| PUBG Mobile | Clans exist in-game and show their tag next to the name; typed brackets count toward the 14-character nickname | 14 characters, no spaces |
| Standoff 2 | Clans exist in-game; typed brackets count toward the 16-character nickname and must survive the symbol filter | 16 characters |
The checker at the bottom of the tool takes a full string like [NVX] Shadow and shows where it passes: Unicode brackets fail in Xbox, Roblox, Minecraft and Fortnite, plain square brackets fail in Xbox, and everything counts in Free Fire and PUBG.
What makes a good clan name
The name has to survive three tests. It gets shortened to a tag, so the first letters of each word should form something readable — Nova Vex gives NVX, The Boys From Room 4 gives nothing. It gets said out loud in every match, so two syllables beat five. And it should not already belong to a known esports organisation — a Google check takes ten seconds and saves an awkward rename. Beyond that: one theme per name (colour, animal, myth, weather, weapon — not all five), no years or player counts in the name, and a tag that no member's own nickname already starts with.

What makes ours different
Clan name lists are everywhere; a generator that knows the tag will sit in front of a nickname is not. This one lets you pick the bracket style, builds names around your own word instead of shuffling the same fifty fantasy nouns, and checks the tag-plus-nickname string against the real length rules of CS2, Valorant, Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, Standoff 2 and fifteen more games. It is free, runs in your browser without an account, has no ads over the tool and stores your shortlist locally.
Privacy
Everything runs in your browser. Word lists, frames and the game rules are part of the page; no keyword or generated name is sent anywhere, and saved names stay in local storage on your device.
FAQ
How long should a clan tag be?
2–5 characters. It counts toward the nickname limit in Free Fire (12), PUBG Mobile (14) and Standoff 2 (16), so shorter tags leave more room for the actual name.
How do I set a clan tag in CS2?
Create or join a Steam group, give it an abbreviation, then in CS2 choose it under Settings → Game → Clan tag. It appears on the scoreboard separately from your Steam name.
Does Valorant have clan tags?
Not as a system. Teams share a #tagline (3–5 characters) on their Riot IDs or put a short prefix inside the 16-character game name.
Which brackets work in mobile games?
『 』 【 】 ꧁ ꧂ and ༺ ༻ render in Free Fire, PUBG Mobile and Standoff 2. Plain [ ] also works there. Emoji brackets do not.
Can I check if a clan name is taken?
Not automatically. Search the name together with the game's title before adopting it; the generator gives original combinations, but esports organisations exist in every genre.
Are the 100 names free to use?
Yes. They were written for this page and are not trademarks we know of — still run a quick search for your game before you print jerseys.
