How well do you know Genshin Impact lore?

Everyone in the Discord claims they read the item descriptions. Twelve questions on Archons, Gnoses and the cataclysm will settle it, and each answer comes with the explanation so you learn the ones you miss.

How to use

  1. Press Start and answer 12 questions. After each answer you see whether you were right, plus a short explanation with the surrounding lore.
  2. Get your score out of 12 and a rank from Emergency Food to Honorary Archon, on a card with the number on it.
  3. Share the card in Telegram, WhatsApp, VK, X, Reddit or Discord, or save it as an image. Friends who open your link see your score and can try to beat it.

What the quiz covers

Twelve questions across the parts of the lore that do not move: who the Archons are, what they are called, what the Gnoses do, what happened 500 years ago and what Celestia is. Nothing here depends on the current banner or the newest chapter, so the quiz is fair whether you finished the latest Archon Quest last night or stopped playing after Liyue.

NationElementDivine nameWho you meet
MondstadtAnemoBarbatosVenti, the bard
LiyueGeoMorax (Rex Lapis)Zhongli
InazumaElectroBeelzebulRaiden Ei and the Raiden Shogun puppet
SumeruDendroBuer (Lesser Lord Kusanali)Nahida
FontaineHydroFocalorsFurina, who held the throne
NatlanPyroMavuika
SnezhnayaCryoThe Tsaritsa

That table alone answers four of the twelve questions, and it is the single most useful thing to memorise if you want to follow lore discussions. Note the pattern: every Archon has a divine name used by gods and old records, and a personal name used by everyone else. Venti is Barbatos. Zhongli is Morax, called Rex Lapis by the people of Liyue. Ei is Beelzebul, and the ruler people actually see in Inazuma is a puppet she built. Nahida is Buer, called Lesser Lord Kusanali. Once the two-name habit clicks, most of the confusion in the wiki disappears.

The Seven, in one page

Only two members of the original Seven are still around: Barbatos and Morax. Barbatos became the Anemo Archon roughly 2,600 years ago and has spent most of the time since then not governing Mondstadt at all, which he cheerfully admits makes him the weakest of the Seven. Morax is the opposite: he built Liyue, minted its currency, and stepped back only when he decided the city could run itself.

Inazuma is the strange one. The Electro Archon at the end of the Archon War was Baal — Raiden Makoto — who died around 500 years ago. Her twin sister Ei took the seat as Beelzebul, then withdrew into the Plane of Euthymia and left a puppet, the Raiden Shogun, to rule in her place forever. That is the pursuit of Eternity taken to its literal conclusion, and it is why Inazuma spent so long locked down.

Sumeru had a similar handover in the other direction. The Dendro Archon Greater Lord Rukkhadevata was an incarnation of Irminsul, the world tree of memory; her successor Lesser Lord Kusanali — Nahida — was born from its purest branch about 500 years ago and then spent most of her existence shut away while the Akademiya sages governed in her name. Fontaine, meanwhile, was ruled from the throne by Furina for five centuries in the name of the Hydro Archon Focalors, and Natlan is led by Mavuika. The seventh, the Cryo Archon of Snezhnaya, is the Tsaritsa, and she is the reason the Fatui are everywhere.

Gnoses, Khaenri'ah and the number 500

A Gnosis is not a Vision. Visions are given to mortals with strong enough ambition and let them use one element. A Gnosis is a device that grants and enhances elemental power at a completely different level, described as far more advanced, and it normally sits with an Archon. The Tsaritsa is collecting them, and her Fatui Harbingers are the ones doing the collecting — which is the connecting thread through the Archon Quests of every nation, whatever else is happening locally.

Then there is the number that keeps coming up: 500 years. Khaenri'ah, a subterranean kingdom that was not under the purview of The Seven — a nation with no Archon of its own — fell during the cataclysm 500 years ago and was destroyed by the Heavenly Principles and The Seven. Around the same time, monsters from the Abyss poured out across all seven nations. Baal died. Nahida ascended. Whenever a character says "500 years ago" with a heavy pause, this is what they are talking about.

Above all of it sits Celestia, the floating island you can see in the sky from almost anywhere in Teyvat: the realm of the gods and angels, controlled by the Heavenly Principles, and the place mortals are said to be able to ascend to after great deeds. And underneath the whole story is the simplest thread of all — the Traveler, one of two twins from beyond this world, walking from nation to nation looking for a sibling, with Paimon talking the entire way.

How scoring and sharing work

Each correct answer is one point. Your score out of 12 decides the rank: Emergency Food below 5, Guild Outrider from 5, Akademiya Scholar from 9, Keeper of Irminsul at 11 and Honorary Archon only for a clean 12. The card shows the rank, the score and a description, and the link you share carries the score, so a friend opening it sees exactly what you got — not your answers.

The result screen has buttons for Telegram, WhatsApp, VK, X, Reddit and Facebook, a copy-link button and a "save card" button that downloads a 1200×630 image, the right size for a post, a story or a Discord server banner. The natural use is a co-op challenge: post your number and watch three people immediately retake it.

What makes this quiz different: every fact was checked against the Genshin Impact wiki before it went in, there are no questions about leaks or unconfirmed theories, and nothing depends on the current version. Each answer explains itself, so a low score turns into twelve things you now know. It runs entirely in your browser, with no registration and no email gate before the result. Privacy: your answers are not sent anywhere and are not stored; the link contains only your rank id and your score.

FAQ

Are there spoilers in the quiz?

The questions cover the main Archon Quests through Fontaine and general world lore. If you are still in Mondstadt or Liyue, a few answers will spoil who certain characters really are. Nothing later than the released main story is used, and no leaks.

Is the Raiden Shogun the same person as Ei?

Not exactly, and that is the point of the question. Ei is the Electro Archon, Beelzebul; the Shogun is a puppet she made to rule Inazuma in her place while she withdrew into the Plane of Euthymia.

What is the difference between a Vision and a Gnosis?

A Vision is given to a mortal and lets them use one element. A Gnosis is a far more advanced device that grants and enhances elemental power, normally held by an Archon. The Tsaritsa is collecting the Gnoses through her Fatui Harbingers.

Where do the facts come from?

The Genshin Impact wiki and the in-game story text, checked in September 2026. Nothing from leaks or beta datamines is used, and questions about anything still unconfirmed were left out on purpose.

Is my score saved anywhere?

No. It exists in the link you share (the part after #) and in the card image. Nothing is stored on our side.

Can I take it more than once?

Yes, as many times as you like. The questions stay in the same order so scores are comparable between friends.
