Free Primogems in Genshin: Every Real Source (2026)

How many Primogems a month actually free-to-play: commissions, Abyss, Theater, check-ins, chests and codes — and why primogem generators end in a banned account.

Updated: ·7 min read ·Genshin Impact

Free Primogems in Genshin Impact add up to roughly 3,600 a month, and almost three quarters of that is plain daily commissions. Four commissions pay 10 each plus 20 for reporting to Katheryne: 60 a day, 1,800 over 30 days. The rest comes from the Spiral Abyss, the Imaginarium Theater and the HoYoLAB check-in. One-time stock — chests, statues, achievements, quests — sits outside that arithmetic and never comes back.

Start with the step people skip most: after the fourth commission, go back to Katheryne and hand in the report.

Short answer

  • Daily commissions pay 60 a day and 1,800 a month — by far the largest stable source.
  • Spiral Abyss floors 9–12 pay up to 800 per cycle, resetting on the 16th.
  • The Imaginarium Theater pays up to 1,000 per season, resetting on the 1st.
  • The HoYoLAB check-in adds about 60 a month, plus a one-off 100 for your first ever check-in.
  • One wish costs 160 Primogems, so a fully active month is about 22 wishes.

What lands every day

The daily loop is short and has two items in it.

Four commissions, 60 Primogems. Ten each plus 20 for the report. Commissions unlock at Adventure Rank 12 and never carry over: what you skip today is replaced at the reset.

The HoYoLAB check-in, around 60 a month. You check in on HoYoverse's own community platform under Tools; besides Primogems it pays Mora and EXP books. The first check-in ever adds 100 Primogems and 10,000 Mora.

There are paid sources too, and they are worth naming plainly so nobody mistakes them for free income: the Blessing of the Welkin Moon gives 2,700 Primogems across 30 days, and the Battle Pass 680 per period. Both are bought with money through the official Top-Up Center and do not belong in a free-to-play calculation.

What closes once a month

Two large cycles, and conveniently they do not land on the same date.

Activity Maximum Reset
Spiral Abyss, floors 9–12 800 16th of the month
Imaginarium Theater 1,000 1st of the month

Spiral Abyss. Three and six stars on a floor pay 50 Primogems each, nine stars pay 100. Nine stars across all four floors is where the 800 comes from. Floors 1–8 close once in an account's lifetime and pay 2,400 as a one-off.

Imaginarium Theater. Medals scale: the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th pay 60 each, the 3rd and 6th pay 100, the 8th and 10th pay 120, and the two Arcanum challenges add 100 each. Clearing the acts for the first time pays 1,800 once.

Both modes want a built roster, which loops back to progression: the more evenly your ascensions are closed, the more stars you take. What to build and in what order is in the beginner guide.

One-time stock: chests, statues, achievements

This part never renews — and on a new account it is the biggest pile you own.

  • Chests. Anywhere from 0 to 80 Primogems apiece depending on quality and region.
  • Waypoints and statues. Discovering Teleport Waypoints and Statues of The Seven pays 1,800 in total, and levelling the statues another 1,800.
  • Adventurer Handbook. EXP rewards total 900.
  • Achievements. A large pool that closes itself as you play.
  • Serenitea Pot. 600 from Trust Ranks, plus 40 per owned character from companion gift sets.
  • Genius Invokation TCG. 600 from player levels and 240 from the TCG Player's Manual.
  • Quests. Archon, Story, World and Hangout.

The practical takeaway: a fresh account is sitting on several dozen wishes' worth of open world. It spends once, which is exactly why it stings to dump it into a random banner before you know who you play.

There is an ordering trick too. Waypoints and statues pay immediately and require neither combat nor a built team, so in a new region it pays to sprint the map open first and come back for chests later. It also compounds — waypoints shorten every future gathering route, and levelled statues raise your stamina.

Then there are events. Version events almost always pay in Primogems, and almost always on a deadline. In version 7.0 several rewards were tied to finishing the Archon Quest and clearing exploration objectives inside a set window; the window does not come back, even though the quests themselves stay.

Codes and mail: what arrives on its own

HoYoverse hands out codes during version livestreams, campaigns and community pushes. They are redeemed on the official gift page rather than in-game, and they are short-lived — usually the stream plus a few hours. The form, the server picker and every redemption error are covered in the Genshin promo codes guide.

The second channel is in-game mail. Version maintenance pays compensation at 60 Primogems per hour of downtime, and fixed issues pay separately. Version 7.0 delivered 600 Primogems across two letters.

Mail expires after 30 days. Compensation you never opened simply vanishes, which is the most annoying loss on this page, because collecting it is a single tap.

How many wishes is that per month?

About twenty-two, if you close everything that repeats.

Add it up: 1,800 from commissions, 800 from the Abyss, 1,000 from the Theater, 60 from check-ins. That is 3,660 Primogems. Divide by 160, the price of one wish, and you get 22 wishes and change.

Set that against the price of a 5-star: the consolidated rate on the character banner works out to roughly one per 62.5 wishes, or about 10,000 Primogems. Three months of full activity per guaranteed character is the honest free-to-play pace. How the thresholds and the 50/50 behave is unpacked in the wish pity guide.

It also explains why experienced players never buy the sixth resin refill of the day: 200 Primogems for 60 resin costs more than a wish. The full breakdown is in the resin guide.

Why primogem generators cannot work

Because Primogems are not stored on your device. They sit on HoYoverse's servers, and an external site has no way to credit them. The only thing it can do is ask you for a login, a password or a UID.

The official side is unambiguous. The Fair Use Statement signed by Cognosphere sets out three bans in plain language: third-party tools that affect the fairness of the game; the sale, purchase or transfer of accounts; and topping up through unofficial channels or third parties. The listed consequences are removal of improperly obtained rewards, suspension, and permanent bans.

So the risk runs twice. First whoever you handed the password to takes the account. Then, if unofficial credits ever touched it, the company takes it too.

There are exactly two legitimate routes, both first-party: the official gift redemption page for codes and the Top-Up Center on the Genshin Impact site for purchases. Anything else promising Primogems is promising them in exchange for your account.

Worth remembering separately: codes are public by nature. A code that "only works for you" and needs a login on someone else's site is not a code.

What usually goes wrong

Skipping the report to Katheryne. Symptom: 40 Primogems today instead of 60. Cause: 20 of the 60 sit in the report after the fourth commission. Fix: hand it in at the Guild or straight from the Adventurer Handbook.

Leaving compensation mail unopened. Symptom: the letters are gone and nothing arrived. Cause: mail expires after 30 days. Fix: clear the mailbox weekly, especially in the first days of a version.

Expecting the Abyss and the Theater on the same date. Symptom: half the reward left on the table. Cause: the Abyss resets on the 16th, the Theater on the 1st. Fix: keep two reminders, not one.

Spending the one-time stock on the first banner you see. Symptom: chests opened, Primogems gone, wrong character. Cause: that pool never renews. Fix: save to at least 90 wishes so the threshold is guaranteed.

Searching for unlimited Primogems. Symptom: a site asking you to log into your HoYoverse account. Cause: that is credential harvesting, not a reward. Fix: close it — only the official redemption page ever needs that password.

If the spreadsheets get old, the Genshin lore quiz and the character quiz take a couple of minutes, and what to do once the character finally drops is in the ascension materials guide. Everything else lives on the Genshin Impact hub.

FAQ

How many Primogems can you earn free in a month?

Around 3,600 if you close every repeating activity: 1,800 from daily commissions, up to 800 from Spiral Abyss floors 9–12, up to 1,000 from the Imaginarium Theater and 60 from HoYoLAB check-ins. That is roughly 22 wishes.

How much do daily commissions pay?

60 Primogems a day: 10 for each of the four commissions plus 20 for reporting back to Katheryne at the Adventurers' Guild. The report is easy to forget, and it is a third of the daily total.

Do Primogem generators exist?

No. Primogems live on HoYoverse's servers and no external site can credit them. Generators harvest logins and UIDs, and the official Fair Use Statement lists third-party tools and top-ups through unofficial channels as grounds for removing rewards and permanently banning the account.

When do the Abyss and the Theater reset?

Spiral Abyss floors reset on the 16th of each month and Imaginarium Theater seasons on the 1st. Two independent cycles, so the first half of the month favours the Theater and the second half the Abyss.

Does the HoYoLAB check-in give anything besides Primogems?

Yes — Mora, Hero's Wit and other in-game items. The very first check-in pays 100 Primogems and 10,000 Mora, per HoYoverse's own in-game announcement.
