Where to Find Ascension Materials in Genshin (2026)

Genshin Impact sorts materials along two axes: region and weekday. Talent books sit in the Domain of Mastery of the character's home region, weapon ascension materials in that region's Domain of Forgery, and both run on the same rotation — Monday/Thursday, Tuesday/Friday, Wednesday/Saturday, with Sunday opening all three. Local specialties grow only in their own region and respawn after 46 hours.

Which leads to one habit worth building: check the calendar before you check the map.

Short answer

  • Talent books and weapon materials rotate by day: Mon/Thu, Tue/Fri, Wed/Sat, and all three on Sunday.
  • Each of the eight regions has its own Domain of Mastery and its own Domain of Forgery.
  • Local specialties never drop from enemies — you gather them, buy them, or grow them in the Serenitea Pot.
  • Every specialty node respawns in 46 hours, so they are collected on a route, not one at a time.
  • The Crown of Insight cannot be farmed with resin at all: offerings, flagship events and Paimon's Bargains only.

The four queues behind every character

An ascension is assembled from four independent queues, and progress always stalls in one of them.

Ascension gems. Dropped by the normal boss of the matching element. Slivers craft up into Fragments, Chunks and Gemstones through Alchemy — Fragments unlock at AR 25, Chunks at AR 35, Gemstones at AR 45.

The boss drop. One specific item from a normal boss, tied to the character. You can fight the boss endlessly, but claiming the reward costs 40 resin.

A local specialty. A plant or object from the character's home region. It costs no resin, only time.

Enemy drops. Three tiers of the same common-mob drop, each craftable into the next.

Talents run in their own queue: three kinds of books from the Domain of Mastery, common enemy drops, and a Weekly Boss material above talent level 8. Books upgrade too — three Teachings make one Guide, three Guides make one Philosophies.

Weapons form a fifth queue: Domain of Forgery materials plus two kinds of common drops. It only overlaps with the character queue on the calendar, which is exactly why weapons end up two ascension phases behind — they get forgotten while the character is being built. Who to build first is covered in the beginner guide, and if you have not chosen a main yet, which Genshin character are you is a two-minute starting point.

Which days are the domains open?

One rotation, identical everywhere in the game.

Days What is available
Monday and Thursday The region's first set
Tuesday and Friday The second set
Wednesday and Saturday The third set
Sunday All three sets

The switch happens at the daily reset — 04:00 on your server's clock, not your own midnight. Play late at night and "today's" domain may still be yesterday's.

Sunday is the only day that can close three queues at once, which is why it is worth reserving for whichever book you are actually short of, rather than spending it on the first domain you happen to walk past.

Talent books by region

Every region has its own Domain of Mastery, and a character is almost always levelled with books from their homeland.

Region Domain of Mastery Book sets
Mondstadt Forsaken Rift Freedom, Resistance, Ballad
Liyue Taishan Mansion Prosperity, Diligence, Gold
Inazuma Violet Court Transience, Elegance, Light
Sumeru Steeple of Ignorance Admonition, Ingenuity, Praxis
Fontaine Pale Forgotten Glory Equity, Justice, Order
Natlan Blazing Ruins Contention, Kindling, Conflict
Nod-Krai Lightless Capital Moonlight, Elysium, Vagrancy
Snezhnaya Relics of the Fallen Grace Charity, Fortitude, Glory

The order in the third column matches the rotation: first set on Monday and Thursday, second on Tuesday and Friday, third on Wednesday and Saturday.

The Domain of Mastery itself unlocks at Adventure Rank 27. If the entrance is greyed out on the correct day, the cause is almost always rank rather than schedule.

Weapon ascension materials

Same logic, different buildings. Domains of Forgery open earlier, at Adventure Rank 16.

Region Domain of Forgery
Mondstadt Cecilia Garden
Liyue Hidden Palace of Lianshan Formula
Inazuma Court of Flowing Sand
Sumeru Tower of Abject Pride
Fontaine Echoes of the Deep Tides
Natlan Ancient Watchtower
Nod-Krai Lost Mooncourt
Snezhnaya Scars of Cursed Obsession

The internal rotation is the same three sets across the same day pairs. The difference is that weapons are bound to their material more tightly than characters: two swords from the same region can want two different sets.

Practical consequence for anyone farming both: a Domain of Forgery run and a Domain of Mastery run are two separate 20-resin claims. You have roughly nine such claims a day before bosses enter the picture — how to divide them is worked out in the resin guide.

Where do local specialties grow?

In their home region, and almost always tied to specific terrain: Wolvendom, coastlines, caves, desert.

The count drops as the map grows newer — nine each in Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma and Sumeru, eight in Fontaine and Natlan, six in Nod-Krai, three in Snezhnaya. The younger the region, the fewer the options and the more characters share them.

There are three ways to get one, and they stack.

Gather it in the world. The main route. A node respawns after 46 hours, so a loop cleared on Monday morning is full again on Wednesday.

Buy it from a vendor. Some specialties are stocked by NPCs — Flora and Chloris in Mondstadt, Fengtai in Liyue, Kuzmich in the northern regions — with limited stock that refreshes every one to three days, and the refresh interval can differ item by item at the same vendor. Several have no vendor at all: Nilotpala Lotus, Beryl Conch and Rainbow Rose are hand-picked only.

Grow it in the Serenitea Pot. The Pot unlocks at AR 28, and its three field types — Jade Field, Luxuriant Glebe, Orderly Meadow — cover a noticeable slice of the list. A planting does not replace the route, but it takes the rarest entries off it.

How to actually locate a material

The sequence that saves the most time looks like this.

Start on the character screen. The ascension panel lists everything needed; tapping a material opens a description that names its region.

Bring a character with a detection passive. Several characters have a utility talent that marks their region's specialties on the minimap. That is a built-in mechanic, not a third-party scanner.

Drop your own map pins. A route mapped once stays useful for months, because the respawn is fixed rather than random.

Check around waypoints. Specialties cluster near Statues of The Seven and teleport points for a reason — the loop is meant to close in one jump.

One detail that quietly pays for itself: several characters carry crafting passives. Eula can double talent books, Xingqiu refunds part of the materials, Yae Miko grants an extra regional book, and Albedo does the same for weapon materials. They do not need to be in your party — only on the account when you craft.

If you have not decided which region to farm first, which Genshin nation are you at least gives you a reason to pick one instead of running all eight.

What usually goes wrong

Arriving at the domain on the wrong day. Symptom: the wrong book set inside. Cause: three sets alternate across day pairs. Fix: check the rotation first, and save scarce books for Sunday when everything is open.

Farming, but talents stop at level 6. Symptom: books in the bag, button greyed out. Cause: talent level 7 and up needs a Weekly Boss material, and level 10 needs a Crown of Insight, which resin cannot farm. Fix: take several characters to 6–8 and reserve the crown.

Picking specialties one at a time in passing. Symptom: five short of an ascension, with a two-day wait. Cause: nodes respawn on their own 46-hour clock regardless of how many you took. Fix: run the whole loop in one pass, even when you need fewer.

Hunting for a Crown of Insight domain. Symptom: searching for a domain that does not exist. Cause: crowns come from offerings, flagship events and Paimon's Bargains only. Fix: plan level 10 talents in advance, for your main carry alone.

Stockpiling "for everyone." Symptom: a full inventory and not one ascended character. Cause: the queues are independent, and a shortage in one halts all of them. Fix: take one character all the way instead of moving six up a single phase.

Where the Primogems for the next character come from is covered in the free Primogems guide, and how the wish counter behaves once you have them is in the pity guide. The rest of our Genshin material lives on the Genshin Impact hub.

FAQ

Which days drop which talent books?

Monday and Thursday give a region's first set, Tuesday and Friday the second, Wednesday and Saturday the third, and Sunday gives all three. The rotation is identical across all eight regions and identical for Domains of Forgery.

Why is the domain locked on the right day?

Usually Adventure Rank: Domains of Forgery open at AR 16, Domains of Blessing at AR 22, Domains of Mastery at AR 27. The other possibility is that you are standing at another region's domain — every region has its own.

How fast do local specialties respawn?

46 hours after harvest. That is slightly under two days, so a route cleared on Monday morning is ready again early on Wednesday.

Can local specialties be bought from vendors?

Some can — Flora in Mondstadt, Fengtai in Liyue, Kuzmich in the northern regions — with limited stock that refreshes every one to three days. Several specialties have no vendor at all and are gathered by hand only.

Where does the Crown of Insight come from?

Offerings, limited-time flagship events and Paimon's Bargains. It is the one talent material that resin cannot farm, which is why level 10 talents go to one or two characters, not the whole roster.
