GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at the same US price, $79.99. No console, PS5 Pro and Series S included, has official resolution, frame rate or file size yet.

What differs is what each store page lists. The PlayStation Store marks GTA VI as PS5 Pro Enhanced and lists DualSense haptics, adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D Audio and Remote Play. The Xbox Store says "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" and lists achievements and cloud saves. Rockstar's own site carries a "Plays Best On PlayStation 5" banner, with no numbers behind it. Our GTA 6 countdown shows the time left until launch in your time zone.

Short answer

  • Same game, same date, same price: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, November 19, 2026, $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate in the US.
  • Single player on both: Rockstar calls GTA VI "a single player experience".
  • PS5 store page: PS5 Pro Enhanced, DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D Audio, Remote Play, offline play.
  • Xbox store page: "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S", achievements, cloud saves. Series S is covered by the same listing.
  • Not announced for any console: resolution, frame rate, graphics modes, download size.
  • The boxed version holds a code, not a disc, so consoles without a drive lose nothing.

What the official store pages list

Everything below comes from the PlayStation Store page (checked October 18, 2026), the Xbox Store page and rockstargames.com/VI (checked October 11, 2026). "Not listed" means the store page does not mention it.

The table is short on numbers because the official pages are. Sony's page talks about the SSD giving "near-instant load times" and about controller effects; Microsoft's page talks about one optimized listing for both Series consoles. Neither gives a single performance figure.

PS5 or PS5 Pro

The PlayStation Store lists GTA VI as "PS5 Pro Enhanced". Neither Sony nor Rockstar has said what that means for this game: no resolution, frame rate or graphics mode is announced for the Pro or for the regular PS5. The same goes for the "Plays Best On PlayStation 5" banner on Rockstar's site. It is a statement on a web page, and Rockstar has published no comparison behind it.

If you already own a PS5, there is no official reason yet to buy a Pro for GTA 6. If you are buying a console now anyway, both PlayStation models get the same game, price and launch day. Remote Play, which the store page lists, also lets you stream your copy from the console to a phone or a PC; our GTA 6 on PS4, Xbox One, Switch 2 or mobile guide explains how far that goes.

Xbox Series X or Series S

The Xbox Store covers both consoles with one label, "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S". So the answer to "will GTA 6 run on Series S" is yes: it is on the official listing. How it looks and runs there is not announced, just as on Series X.

The download size is not on the Xbox Store page either, and pre-load starts on November 12, a week before launch. Series S owners with little free space should clear room early; our GTA 6 file size and pre-load page tracks what is known.

Cloud play is the other Xbox question. On October 7, 2026 Xbox's Matthew Ball wrote that the game "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC". Whether GTA 6 appears in Xbox Cloud Gaming at all has not been announced. The PC side of the story is in our GTA 6 PC release guide.

What is the same on both consoles

  • The story, the map and the two editions. What Ultimate adds is in GTA 6 editions compared.
  • The Vintage Vice City Pack for anyone who buys before November 20, 2026.
  • A free month of GTA+ with a digital pre-order. The activation windows differ: PlayStation's UK and German pages say activate by March 31, 2027, the Xbox Store says within 180 days.
  • Pre-load from November 12. Rockstar's pre-order announcement promises it for digital copies.
  • The box: a download code with no disc, per the Rockstar Store; it ships and is ready for pickup from November 12 (expected).

Prices outside the US differ by store and country, and only on PlayStation do we have them for 48 regions: see GTA 6 price by country.

What usually goes wrong

Treating "Plays Best On PlayStation 5" as a benchmark. Sign: forum posts say PS5 "runs it better". Cause: the banner on Rockstar's site comes without any published numbers. Fix: wait for official specs or launch reviews before buying a console for GTA 6.

Buying a Pro or a Series X for "4K 60 FPS". Sign: videos with confident resolution and frame rate figures. Cause: no console has official numbers, so those figures are guesses or leaks. Fix: choose by what you already own and what the stores confirm. Our list of what is confirmed and what is rumor helps sort claims.

Reading Xbox One and Windows icons as versions. Sign: a screenshot of xbox.com with Xbox One and Windows badges next to GTA VI. Cause: the general game hub on xbox.com uses template badges; the store card lists only Xbox Series X|S. Fix: trust the store card and rockstargames.com/VI.

Running out of space at pre-load. Sign: the pre-load on November 12 stops halfway. Cause: the size is not announced, and pre-load starts a week early. Fix: free up space before November 12 and keep an eye on the official store page.

Ordering a box for the wrong account. Sign: a PlayStation code from a Rockstar Store box will not redeem. Cause: those codes only work with a PlayStation account from the same region: the US and Canada, the UK, or the European countries the Rockstar Store lists. Fix: order for your own account's region; the GTA 6 pre-order guide has the full checklist.

Whichever console you pick, the launch date is the same: see GTA 6 release date for the history of delays, and our GTA 6 hub for everything else about the game.

FAQ

Is GTA 6 better on PS5 or Xbox Series X?

Nobody official has said. Rockstar's site shows a "Plays Best On PlayStation 5" banner, and the PlayStation Store lists PS5 Pro Enhanced and DualSense features, but no resolution or frame rate has been published for any console. Price, date and content are the same on both.

Will GTA 6 run on Xbox Series S?

Yes. The Xbox Store lists GTA VI as "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S", one listing for both consoles. Resolution and frame rate on Series S have not been announced.

What does PS5 Pro Enhanced mean for GTA 6?

It is the label the PlayStation Store gives GTA VI. Neither Sony nor Rockstar has said what the Pro version improves, so any 4K or 60 FPS claim for the Pro is a guess for now.

Can I play GTA 6 on a console without a disc drive?

Yes. Even the boxed version holds a download code instead of a disc, so a PS5 Digital Edition or an Xbox Series S loses nothing. Digital copies and boxed codes both download the game.

Is there cross-save between PS5 and Xbox in GTA 6?

Not announced. The Xbox Store lists cloud saves within Xbox, and no official page mentions moving progress between PlayStation and Xbox. Rockstar calls GTA VI a single player experience, so cross-play does not apply.
