How to use
- Press Start and answer 12 questions. After each one you see whether you were right and a one-line explanation, so you learn as you go.
- Get your score out of 12 and a rank from Wooden Pickaxe to Dragon Slayer, with a card showing the number.
- Share the card in Telegram, WhatsApp, VK, X or Reddit, or save it as an image. Friends who open your link see your score and can try to beat it.
What the quiz covers
The twelve questions are spread over five areas so that a builder, a redstone engineer, a speedrunner and a lore fan each get a fair shot. Nothing here depends on the latest snapshot: the recipes and mob behaviours have been stable for years, and the history does not change.

The facts in the quiz are the ones that come up in real play. Four scrap and four gold for a netherite ingot decides how many ancient debris you need to mine. A 4 × 5 frame without corners is why speedrunners carry exactly ten obsidian. The Warden being blind is why you crouch through an ancient city. The Evoker is why people raid woodland mansions at all. If you got a question wrong, the explanation under the answer is the short version and the sections below are the long one.
The crafting and mob questions, explained
Netherite. Ancient debris is found in the Nether, mostly around Y=15. Smelt it into netherite scrap, then combine four scrap with four gold ingots for one ingot. Upgrading a diamond item to netherite needs a smithing table, a netherite upgrade template and one ingot. Nether portal. An obsidian frame at least 4 wide and 5 tall, up to 23 × 23; corners are optional, so the minimum is 10 obsidian, and the game itself always builds portals with corners, which takes 14. Light it with flint and steel. One block of travel in the Nether equals eight in the Overworld.
Wither. Four soul sand or soul soil blocks in a T, three wither skeleton skulls on top. It has 300 health in Java Edition and explodes on spawn, so build it far from anything you care about. Warden. Spawned when a player triggers naturally generated sculk shriekers four times in the deep dark. It is completely blind, tracks vibrations and smell, has 500 health, ignores knockback and digs away after a while with nothing to chase. Enderman. Neutral until you look straight at its face; damaged by water and rain, immune to being looked at by a player wearing a carved pumpkin. Evoker. Spawns in woodland mansions and raids, casts fangs and summons vexes, and always drops one Totem of Undying.
The history and version questions, explained
Markus "Notch" Persson released the first public version, now called Classic, on May 17, 2009. Alpha and Beta followed, and Minecraft 1.0 was released on November 18, 2011. Jens "Jeb" Bergensten later became lead developer. On November 6, 2014, Microsoft bought Mojang for 2.5 billion US dollars; Notch left the company after the sale. Herobrine, the white-eyed figure from a 2010 forum story, has never existed in any official version, and the "Removed Herobrine" line in changelogs is Mojang's long-running joke about it.
The Mob Vote ran from 2017 to 2023. Phantom won in 2017 (added in 1.13), Glow Squid in 2020 (1.17), Allay in 2021 (1.19, The Wild Update, which also brought the Warden and the deep dark), Sniffer in 2022 (1.20, Trails & Tales) and Armadillo in 2023 (1.20.5). In 2018 and 2019 the community voted on biomes instead. Later updates added the Breeze and the Bogged in 1.21 (Tricky Trials, June 2024), the Creaking with the Pale Garden in 1.21.4 and the Happy Ghast in 1.21.6. Since 2025 Mojang has switched to several smaller "drops" per year instead of one big named update.
How scoring and sharing work
Each correct answer is one point. Your score out of 12 sets the rank: Wooden Pickaxe for anything under 5, Iron Pickaxe from 5, Diamond Pickaxe from 9, Netherite for 11 and Dragon Slayer only for a perfect 12. The card shows the rank, the score and a description, and the share link carries the score, so a friend who opens it sees exactly what you got.
The result screen has buttons for Telegram, WhatsApp, VK, X, Reddit and Facebook, a copy-link button and a "save card" button that downloads a 1200×630 image. The obvious use is a server challenge: post your card, let everyone take the quiz and see who knows the game best. Because every answer comes with an explanation, anyone who reads your card first gets a small edge, which is a fair reason for the loser to demand a rematch.
What makes this quiz different: every fact was checked against the official Minecraft wiki before it went in, and there are no trick questions about snapshot features that might change. It runs entirely in your browser, with no registration and no email gate before the score. Privacy: your answers are not sent anywhere; the only thing in the link is your rank id and your score.
FAQ
Are the facts the same for Java and Bedrock?
The recipes, portal sizes, Mob Vote winners and history are the same. A few details differ, for example the Wither has more health on higher difficulties in Bedrock, and the Illusioner exists only in Java. The quiz avoids questions where the editions disagree.
Did Herobrine ever exist?
No. He is a creepypasta from a 2010 forum post. There is no code for him in any version of the game, and Notch used to auto-reply to emails about him saying exactly that.
How much obsidian does a Nether portal need?
Ten for the minimum 4 × 5 frame without corners, fourteen with corners. Any rectangle up to 23 × 23 works.
Which mobs won the Mob Votes?
Phantom (2017), Glow Squid (2020), Allay (2021), Sniffer (2022) and Armadillo (2023). 2018 and 2019 were biome votes, won by the taiga and the mountains.
Is the score saved anywhere?
No. It is only in the link you share (the part after #) and in the card image. Nothing is stored on our side.
Can I take it again?
Yes, as many times as you like. The questions stay in the same order so scores can be compared fairly.
