How to use
- Type a word for the name or leave the field empty. Minecraft (Java) is preselected: every result is 3–16 characters of letters, digits and underscore.
- Pick a vibe — Cool, Pro, Funny, Cute or Anime.
- Keep font and frame on "Plain": Minecraft Java rejects Unicode. Fancy styles are only useful for server nicknames on plugins like Essentials.
- Generate, tap ☆ to save, Copy the one you want.
- Change it at minecraft.net → Profile → Change profile name. You can do this once every 30 days.
Minecraft username rules
Minecraft has two editions with two naming systems. Java Edition has its own username stored on your Microsoft account; Bedrock Edition (Windows 10/11, consoles, phones) uses your Xbox gamertag, so its rules are Xbox's, not Mojang's. The generator targets Java; for Bedrock use our Xbox gamertag generator.

The case rule matters: capital letters are kept as you typed them and shown that way in chat, but nobody else can register the same letters in a different case. The checker at the bottom of the tool applies the Java rules to anything you paste.
The 30-day change rule and what it means
Java lets you rename once every 30 days, for free, from the profile page on minecraft.net. Because the cooldown is a full month, a typo or a name you regret is expensive in time, not money — which is why it is worth generating a dozen options and sitting with them for a day before changing. Your skin, capes, worlds and server bans travel with your account UUID, not with the name, so servers still recognise you after a rename; what breaks are whitelists and friend lists that were entered as plain text by hand.
Minecraft does not publish a fixed "old name reserved" window in a form we could verify, so if you plan to swap names with a friend or reclaim a previous one, check the current policy on the profile page first.

All of these fit the Java rules. Availability can only be checked on the minecraft.net profile page; short one-word names are almost all gone, so the list leans on two-word pairs and underscores.

Fancy names on servers
If you have seen players with coloured or symbol-filled names, that is not their username: it is a server nickname set by plugins (Essentials /nick, LuckPerms prefixes) or a name tag with § colour codes. Those exist only on that server and are gone when you join another one. Our Minecraft colour codes tool builds those strings; this page is for the account name that goes everywhere with you. Privacy
The tool works entirely in your browser. Word lists and the Minecraft rules are part of the page, nothing you type is uploaded, and saved names live in your browser's local storage only.
