No, GTA 6 has no online mode at launch. Rockstar describes the game as "a single player experience", and the PlayStation Store page repeats it. As of October 11, 2026, there is no announced GTA 6 Online: no date, no format, no player count. Meanwhile GTA Online on GTA V keeps running, and Take-Two said in August 2026 it expects to keep supporting it. What you can get today is GTA+, Rockstar's paid membership, as a free month with a digital pre-order. Our GTA 6 countdown shows the time left in your own time zone.

Short answer

  • At launch on November 19, 2026, GTA 6 is a single-player game.
  • No GTA 6 online mode has been announced, and no date for one exists.
  • GTA Online on GTA V continues; Take-Two expects to support it "going forward".
  • Stores and the ESRB tag the game "In-Game Purchases", which sits awkwardly with a reported "no microtransactions at launch".
  • GTA+ is for GTA Online on GTA V. Digital pre-orders of GTA 6 get one month free, and it renews automatically.
  • Crossplay and lobby sizes: nothing announced.

Will GTA 6 have online at launch?

No. On June 24, 2026, in the pre-order announcement, Rockstar wrote: "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience." When we checked the US PlayStation Store page on October 11, it carried the same line. That is as direct as Rockstar gets.

Single player at launch is a statement about launch, not a promise about the next ten years. Rockstar simply has not said anything beyond it, so below are the statements themselves instead of a forecast.

Every statement on GTA 6 Online, by date

Date Who What was said How solid
June 24, 2026 Rockstar, Newswire "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience" Official
August 7, 2026 Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two CEO, earnings call "we do expect to support GTA Online going forward"; update pace "has been pretty stable" Official, quoted by PCGamesN
August 8, 2026 Jason Schreier, Bloomberg Rockstar "has not talked at all and is not planning to talk anytime soon" about a new GTA Online Reported
September 17, 2026 Zelnick, shareholder meeting At launch, "no online and no microtransactions" Reported, GTABoom paraphrase
Early October 2026 ESRB rating Interactive element: "In-Game Purchases" Official
October 11, 2026 PlayStation Store Single-player; GTA+ month for pre-orders Official

Read the table top to bottom and you get one consistent message: the launch product is single player, GTA Online on GTA V stays, and anything about a new online mode is unannounced.

Microtransactions: the contradiction

Here the record does not line up, and we will not pretend it does.

On one side, GTABoom's account of the September 17 shareholder meeting has Zelnick saying GTA 6 launches with no online and no microtransactions. That is a paraphrase by a fan site, not a transcript.

On the other side, the ESRB rating lists "In-Game Purchases" as an interactive element, and the console store pages carry the same tag. Neither the ESRB page nor Rockstar says which purchases the label covers.

So the honest summary: Rockstar has announced no online mode and no in-game currency for GTA 6, while the rating and the stores mark in-game purchases. Until Rockstar explains, the two stand side by side. If you want the paid extras that do exist, they are the $20 Ultimate upgrade on Xbox and the pre-order pack; both are covered in GTA 6 editions compared.

What happens to GTA Online on GTA V

It continues. Zelnick's words on the August 7, 2026 call were "we do expect to support GTA Online going forward", and he called the pace of updates "pretty stable". Rockstar's Newswire backs that up with a steady run of GTA Online posts this autumn:

  • September 3: a Business Rivalries event.
  • September 10: a week of early access to the Pegassi Horus for GTA+ members.
  • October 1: Halloween events running through the whole month.
  • October 8: a free Pegassi Oppressor for GTA+ members.

GTA+: what it gives and the free month

GTA+ is a monthly membership for GTA Online on GTA V. It does not add anything to GTA 6 itself. Here is what Rockstar's GTA+ page lists:

Benefit Detail
GTA$ GTA$500,000 deposited every billing period
Shark Cards +15% GTA$ on Shark Card purchases
Discounts Member discounts in GTA Online
Vinewood Club A members' club with a 100-car garage and a workshop, plus a companion app
Game library GTA V, Red Dead Redemption, GTA Online, Vice City and GTA III Definitive Editions, Bully, the GTA Trilogy, L.A. Noire, Liberty City Stories, Chinatown Wars
Platforms PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC with GTA V Enhanced (Rockstar Store, Microsoft Store, Steam)
Billing Monthly, renews automatically

Rockstar's page does not show a price; it depends on the store and region. On PC there is a catch: GTA+ works only with GTA V Enhanced, so check which version you launch before you subscribe. On consoles you join through PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store.

The free month goes to digital pre-orders of GTA 6 from PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store made before November 20, 2026. The Rockstar Store FAQ gives the steps:

  1. PS5: open PlayStation Store on the account you pre-ordered with, find the GTA+ page, press "Join". Deadline: March 31, 2027.
  2. Xbox Series X|S: open Microsoft Store on the same account, go to Offers & Credits, press "Redeem" on the GTA+ offer. Deadline: 180 days after purchase.
  3. Note the renewal date. After the free month the membership bills you unless you cancel.

Prices and all pre-order dates are in our GTA 6 pre-order guide.

Crossplay and player count

Neither is announced. Rockstar has not described any online mode for GTA 6, so it has also said nothing about crossplay between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, lobby sizes or a PC link. Numbers of players you may see quoted online do not come from Rockstar or Take-Two, and we are not repeating them.

What usually goes wrong

Waiting for online on November 19. Launch day brings the story mode only. Rockstar has not promised online at launch or on any later date.

Reading "GTA 6 Online in 2027" as news. It is a guess. Rockstar has not announced an online mode, so any year attached to one is speculation.

Forgetting that GTA+ renews. The pre-order month turns into a paid membership. Cancel in the store before the renewal date if you only wanted the free month.

Thinking GTA+ boosts GTA 6. The GTA$ and the Vinewood Club are for GTA Online on GTA V. Nothing in GTA+ is tied to GTA 6 gameplay.

Assuming GTA Online will shut down. Take-Two said the opposite in August, and Rockstar kept shipping events into October.

The launch itself is on our GTA 6 release date page, and the full chain of delays is in the GTA 6 delays timeline. Everything else lives on the GTA 6 hub and the guides page.

FAQ

Is GTA 6 single player only?

At launch, yes. Rockstar called GTA VI 'a single player experience' on June 24, 2026, and the PlayStation Store page says the same. No online mode has been announced.

When will GTA 6 Online come out?

Nobody outside Rockstar knows. There is no announcement, no date and no description of a GTA 6 online mode. Years like 2027 that appear in articles come from speculation, not from Rockstar or Take-Two.

Will GTA Online on GTA V shut down?

Nothing points that way. On August 7, 2026 Take-Two's CEO said 'we do expect to support GTA Online going forward', and Rockstar kept posting GTA Online events through September and October 2026.

What does GTA+ include?

GTA$500,000 every billing period in GTA Online, bonus GTA$ on Shark Cards, discounts, the Vinewood Club with a 100-car garage, and a library of older Rockstar games. It runs on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC with GTA V Enhanced.

How do I activate the free month of GTA+ from a pre-order?

On PS5, open PlayStation Store with the account you pre-ordered on, go to the GTA+ page and press Join, by March 31, 2027. On Xbox, open Microsoft Store, go to Offers & Credits and press Redeem, within 180 days of purchase.

Does GTA 6 have crossplay?

Not announced. Since there is no announced online mode, Rockstar has said nothing about crossplay or player counts.
