PS5 trophy levels run from 1 to 999, and every trophy you earn adds points: by trackers' counts 15 for bronze, 30 for silver, 90 for gold and 300 for a platinum. The platinum trophy itself comes for earning every other trophy in a game's base list. Sony also tags each trophy with one of four rarity labels, lets developers hide some, and in a handful of games brings PS4 progress over on its own, which trophy hunters call autopop.

Here is each part of the system, what is official and what comes from trackers.

Short answer

  • Four grades: bronze, silver, gold, platinum. Trackers count them as 15, 30, 90 and 300 points.
  • Levels go from 1 to 999. The icon changes at 300, 600 and 999: bronze, silver, gold, platinum.
  • A platinum needs every other trophy of the base game. DLC trophies are extra and do not count.
  • Rarity has four labels: Common, Rare, Very rare, Ultra rare. Sony publishes no percentage cut-offs.
  • Autopop exists only in some games with both a PS4 and a PS5 version. Check before you start over.

What the four trophy grades mean

Sony's support page lists the grades from hardest to easiest: platinum, gold, silver, bronze. Bronze, silver and gold are set by the developer for each task, and a platinum is only awarded once all other trophies in the base game are done. Wikipedia adds that smaller games usually have no platinum at all.

Sony does not publish how many points each grade gives. Trophy trackers agree on these numbers:

Grade Points (trackers) Example from Expedition 33
Bronze 15 Lumière: finish the Prologue
Silver 30 Clea: beat an optional endgame boss
Gold 90 The End: beat the final boss
Platinum 300 The Greatest Expedition in History: every other trophy

So a single platinum is worth 20 bronze trophies, and a game with a platinum moves your level noticeably more than a game of the same size without one.

How do trophy levels work on PS5?

On October 7, 2020, the PlayStation Blog announced the system still in use. The level range grew from 1–100 to 1–999, existing levels were recalculated (Sony's example: level 12 becomes "somewhere in the low 200's"), and platinum trophies started to count more toward progression.

The icon next to your level shows the tier:

Level Icon
1–299 Bronze
300–599 Silver
600–998 Gold
999 Platinum

How many points each level needs is not in Sony's post. Trackers have reverse-engineered tables, but they are not official, so treat any "points to next level" calculator as an estimate.

Rarity: what Sony says and what trackers add

Sony's support page names four rarity levels, Ultra rare, Very rare, Rare and Common, and gives no percentages. Wikipedia describes them as based on the share of players who earned the trophy.

Tracker sites print the percentage next to the label, and you can see where their lines fall. Across 705 trophies from 12 games on Stratege (October 11, 2026), the labels sat in these ranges:

Label Observed range on Stratege
Common 50.1–95.4%
Rare 15.1–50.0%
Very rare 5.1–15.0%
Ultra rare none in the sample; would sit at 5% or lower

These are one site's numbers, not Sony's rule. The base also changes from place to place: Cyberpunk 2077's ending trophy The Devil had 5.5% on PSN and 7.3% on Steam the same day, because PSN and Steam count different players. When you compare rarity, compare like with like.

Hidden trophies, DLC lists and the platinum rule

Hidden trophies. A developer can hide a trophy's name and description until you earn it. The trophy still counts like any other, and trophy guides list hidden ones openly.

DLC trophies. Expansions add separate trophy groups that raise your completion percentage but are not needed for the platinum. Cyberpunk 2077 has 45 base trophies and 13 more for Phantom Liberty; the platinum needs only the base 44. PowerPyx marks Expedition 33 and Resident Evil Requiem the same way: no DLC required.

Missable trophies. Some trophies close for good at a point in the story or after a choice. Trophy guides open with a roadmap because of them: Expedition 33 has five such trophies, Cyberpunk 2077 fourteen.

Autopop: which games do it

Autopop means trophies that pop automatically when you load a PS4 save in the PS5 version of the same game. It is not universal: some games transfer saves without autopop, some have no PS4 version at all. Here is what PowerPyx's roadmaps say for the games in our series:

Game Save transfer PS4 to PS5 Autopop
Ghost of Tsushima Yes Yes, everything except photo mode trophies
God of War Ragnarök Yes Yes, PS4 to PS5 only, platinum included
Hogwarts Legacy Yes Yes, PS4 to PS5 only
Elden Ring Yes No
Cyberpunk 2077 Yes No, and the import can stop trophies from popping
GTA V Not covered here Online rank trophies pop at your next rank-up
Ghost of Yōtei, Expedition 33, Resident Evil Requiem No PS4 version n/a

Our full guides cover each case: Ghost of Tsushima, God of War Ragnarök, Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077.

What usually goes wrong

Starting a "fresh" PS5 run that was not needed. In autopop games, your PS4 save already carries the trophies. Load it on PS5 first, see what pops, then decide.

Importing a save where it hurts. Cyberpunk 2077 works the other way: PowerPyx warns that an imported PS4 save can leave trophies that never pop. Start over on PS5 if the platinum is the goal.

Reading a tracker's percentage as Sony's. "Ultra rare" on one site and on another may cover different ranges, and PSN, Steam and Xbox count different players. Quote the source and date with any rarity number.

Chasing DLC for a platinum. DLC trophies raise the completion percentage on your profile, but the platinum never needs them.

Missing a missable in the first hour. Expedition 33 decides two of its five missables in the Prologue. Read the roadmap's missable list before you start any game you plan to platinum.

Where to start

Pick a game you would play anyway, with nothing missable and a short roadmap, and finish it with a guide open. Our list of the easiest platinum trophies sorts 27 good games by hours, starting with Astro's Playroom at 3–4 hours. On PC, achievements live on Steam rather than PSN; if a long save fights with the cloud there, the Steam Cloud conflict guide helps. When you cannot decide what to play next, the random game picker settles it, and the tier list maker is a neat way to rank the platinums you already have. Every trophy guide we publish is on the PlayStation hub.

FAQ

How many points is a platinum trophy?

300, according to trophy trackers. Bronze is worth 15, silver 30 and gold 90. Sony itself does not publish a points table.

What is the max trophy level?
  1. Since the 2020 change the range is 1 to 999, with a bronze icon for levels 1–299, silver for 300–599, gold for 600–998 and platinum at 999 (PlayStation Blog, October 7, 2020).
What do the rarity labels mean?

Sony names four: Ultra rare, Very rare, Rare and Common, based on the share of players who earned the trophy. It publishes no percentage thresholds, so tracker sites draw their own lines.

Does every game have a platinum trophy?

No. A platinum comes for earning every other trophy in the base game, and smaller games usually do not have one.

What is an autopop?

Trophies that pop on their own when you move a save from the PS4 version to the PS5 version. Ghost of Tsushima and God of War Ragnarök do it, Elden Ring does not, per PowerPyx.

Do DLC trophies count toward the platinum?

No. DLC trophies come as separate groups. Cyberpunk 2077's 13 Phantom Liberty trophies, for example, are not needed for its platinum.
