PowerPyx splits the platinum into four steps. Here they are with the numbers that make each step long.

Step 1. Rob four homesteads early for Breaking and Entering, because some homesteads are tied to companion activities and others disappear if you kill their owners. PowerPyx also notes that you need only 48 of 62 weapons, so a missed weapon is not a disaster. Make a manual save from the pause menu at the start of every chapter.
Steps 2 and 3. After the story you can replay missions for gold medals, find the nine graves for Paying Respects, and place the squirrel statue above the fireplace at Beecher's Hope for It's Art. For Skin Deep and Zoologist you only need the animals on the main map. The Chapter 5 island has its own animals, and PowerPyx confirms they are not required.
Step 4. The online trophies mostly come on the way to rank 50. The only planning is money: a permanent posse costs $200, five horse stalls $1,700, five camp upgrades $250.
Rockstar Social Club shows your percentage toward each trophy, which helps a lot with medals and camp activities.

Lending a Hand is the one people lose. PowerPyx lists the optional missions in order. Money Lending and Other Sins runs through Chapters 2 to 4 (parts 1–3, then part 4, then part 5). Chapter 2 adds Good, Honest, Snake Oil from the Valentine sheriff and a chain that starts with a letter in Arthur's tent; Chapter 3 has the Caliga Hall chain near Rhodes; Chapter 4 has Help a Brother Out, Brothers and Sisters, One and All, and Fatherhood and Other Dreams, which starts with a letter in Arthur's room. Chapter 6 ends the list with Do Not Seek Absolution and Of Men and Angels. Some appear with yellow story markers, others with white stranger markers, and some never show in the quest log at all.
PowerPyx also mentions a patch 1.03 trick: replaying Home Improvement for Beginners in the Epilogue gave Lending a Hand regardless of missed missions. It warns that this may be patched, so treat it as a backup, not a plan.

How long the RDR2 platinum really takes
PowerPyx: 240 to 300 hours. About 200 go into the story and 100%, and the online part takes 40 hours with an XP exploit or around 100 without it. The story alone is 50 to 60 hours.
Stratege's average is 686 hours, more than twice that. The site measures how its own users actually played, and many of them spread the list over years. Of 59,149 Stratege users who own the game, 2,976 have the platinum, about 5%, and the average completion is 25%.
Grin and Bear It shows where time goes. You need 18 bear attacks in story mode, each time letting the bear grab you, breaking free and killing it before you stand up. PowerPyx suggests a fully upgraded Carbine Repeater with express ammo and sleeping at a bear spot to respawn them.
What usually goes wrong
Lending a Hand did not pop at the end. One optional Honor mission was skipped, often Do Not Seek Absolution because Honor was below 4 in Chapter 6. Catch-and-release fishing and bounties raise Honor quickly, according to PowerPyx; Chapter 6 also gives 50% more Honor.
Friends With Benefits is missing after Chapter 4. A table game with the gang was counted as the activity. It is not. Check the trophy progress in Social Club after each activity, and keep a manual save from the start of each chapter.
Bountiful will not finish. You need $250 on your head in all five states for 3 days. New Austin has the bounty automatically during the story, so after the Epilogue you must earn a new one there. Make a manual save first, because a bounty stays until you pay it off.
Gold medals are harder on replay. Replays strip tonics and your own weapons. Go for the gold requirements in the first run; since only 70 of 104 count, leave the 34 hardest for last or skip them.
Skin Deep or Zoologist stays incomplete. You are hunting the Chapter 5 island animals you cannot reach any more. They are not needed; only the main-map animals in the compendium count.
Rarity
Stratege shows no PSN percentage for the platinum, but its own counter is blunt: 2,976 platinums among 59,149 owners. On Steam, where the game has no platinum, the rarest achievements on October 11, 2026 are The Real Deal (1.2%), It's Art and Grin and Bear It (1.6% each), then Bountiful and Non-Regulation (1.8% each). Gold Rush, the one PowerPyx calls hardest, is at 2.0%. On PSN the missables stand out: Errand Boy is at 6.1% and Lending a Hand at 7.7%, against 8.3% and 9.5% on Steam.
