The Hogwarts Legacy platinum trophy needs one full playthrough plus three short extra runs. Four of its 46 trophies are tied to the house you choose, and since the house cannot be changed, each one needs its own new game up to the Map Chamber, about 2 hours with dialogue skipped. Everything else stays available after the story. PowerPyx estimates 60–80 hours in total on Story difficulty, Stratege users report 96 hours on average.

The bulk of the work is collections, not combat. The checklist and the full list are below, with PSN and Steam rarity.

Short answer

  • Pick any house for the main run. Gender, house and wand cannot be changed later, but they do not affect the 100% run.
  • From the first fight on, use Ancient Magic on every new enemy type. The trophy tracker needs 34 of 69.
  • Finish the story first: most puzzles and collectibles need spells you only get later.
  • After the story, do side quests, then collectibles, then three new games to main quest 18 for the other houses.
  • Save the cloud copy of your sorting ceremony autosave: it saves you the prologue on every house run.

Do you need four playthroughs for the house trophies?

Yes, but only one of them is long. The trophies The Toast of the Town (Slytherin), The Auror's Apprentice (Hufflepuff), The Gryffindor in the Graveyard and The Wise Owl (Ravenclaw) pop when you reach the Map Chamber with that house, after main quest 18, Jackdaw's Rest. That is early in the story.

PowerPyx describes a way to skip the prologue each time. Manual saves are blocked before the Sorting Ceremony, but the game keeps an autosave:

  1. Start a new game and play until the Sorting Ceremony.
  2. Quit during the ceremony and upload that autosave to PS Plus cloud storage.
  3. Pick the house you still need and play to Jackdaw's Rest.
  4. Download the cloud save after the trophy pops: you are back at the ceremony without replaying the prologue.

With cutscenes skipped, PowerPyx counts about 2 hours per house. PowerPyx leaves these runs for the very end, after the 100% playthrough, which also keeps your main save out of harm's way.

Roadmap: story, spells, side quests, collectibles

PowerPyx's four steps, in our words. The "Step" column in the tables uses these numbers.

  1. Story plus Ancient Magic. Focus on the main quests. The only habit to build is using Ancient Magic on every new enemy type for Finishing Touches. The story alone brings you to about level 25.
  2. Spells, level 3 lockpicking, side quests. Learn every remaining spell; the Unforgivable Curses are not needed. Collect the Demiguise statues to raise Alohomora to level 3, then clear all 57 side quests and the relationship quests of Natsai Onai, Poppy and Sebastian.
  3. Collectibles. The largest step. Practically 100% completion, including challenges, because challenge tiers give appearances that count toward collections.
  4. House runs. The three partial runs from the section above.

PowerPyx notes that the four house trophies are the only missable ones, and the guide's 60–75 hours for the main run include steps 1 to 3.

Collectibles checklist

PowerPyx counts 1,428 collectibles. Many count twice or register on their own when you pass a Floo Flame or meet an enemy, so the list is less scary than the number. What each trophy actually needs:

Collectible How many Trophy
Collections (all categories) 603 Collector's Edition
Floo Flames 83 Floo Around the World
Merlin Trials 95 Merlin's Beard!
Demiguise statues 33 Demiguise Dread
Battle arenas 2 Rise to the Challenges
Cairn dungeons 5 The Intrepid Explorer
Beasts to breed 12 The Nature of the Beast
Plants to grow 8 Put Down Roots
Potions to brew 6 Going Through the Potions
Field Guide pages 180 of 236 Needed for collection rewards
Balloon sets 32 Needed for brooms in the collections
Infamous foes 18 Needed for enemies in the collections

Astronomy tables, landing platforms, Ancient Magic hotspots, Hogwarts secrets, challenges and butterflies feed the collections too. Field Guide pages are the one type where you can stop short of the full count.

What usually goes wrong

Collector's Edition does not pop. PowerPyx writes that patch 1.04 was supposed to fix it, yet some players still report the trophy bugging, and conjurations and traits can bug out. Check your collection categories one by one before assuming a bug.

A trait missing: 74 of 75. This happens when a collection chest in a bandit camp gives no trait. PowerPyx's advice is to reload the last autosave right away whenever a bandit camp chest gives no trait.

One conjuration gone for good. If you start the Follow the Butterflies side quest in Hogsmeade and then finish a different butterfly first, PowerPyx reports you can lose one conjuration permanently. Finish that quest as soon as you take it.

The House Cup won't start. The post-story quest needs level 34. After the story you are usually near 25, so do side quests and challenges first, or fight in the battle arenas.

The Good Samaritan short by one quest. A side quest can rarely break. Keep several of the 10 manual save slots in rotation so you can roll back instead of starting over.

PS4 to PS5 autopop, time and rarity

PowerPyx confirms save transfer and autopop from PS4 to PS5, but not in the other direction. Cross-buy came only with the PS5 Deluxe Edition. On PC, achievements live on Steam and have nothing to do with PSN.

Source Estimate What it measures
PowerPyx (Feb 6, 2023) 60–80 hours, difficulty 3/10 Main run 60–75 h plus three ~2 h house runs
Stratege (Oct 11, 2026) 96 hours on average Self-reported time of Stratege users

Of the four platinums in this series of guides, Hogwarts Legacy is the one people finish least often, judging by Stratege: only 5,987 of its 22,980 users with the game have the platinum, against roughly half for Ghost of Tsushima and God of War Ragnarök, and the average completion is 41%. Collector's Edition at 2.3% on Steam shows where people stop.

If you want a breather after this one, the God of War Ragnarök platinum guide has nothing missable and a two-step route. Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yōtei have nothing missable either. Let the random game picker settle the next pick, or rank your platinums in the tier list maker. Everything we have on the game is on the Hogwarts Legacy hub, PC players syncing a long save should read the Steam Cloud conflict guide, and the rest is on the PlayStation hub and in all guides.

FAQ

Can you get all four house trophies in one playthrough?

No. Your house cannot be changed, and each house trophy needs you to reach the Map Chamber with that house. You need your main run plus three short new games that end at main quest 18, Jackdaw's Rest.

How long does the Hogwarts Legacy platinum take?

PowerPyx estimates 60–80 hours: one full run of about 60–75 hours and three partial runs of about 2 hours each. Stratege users report 96 hours on average as of October 11, 2026.

Does difficulty matter?

No. Everything can be done on Story, the easiest difficulty.

Are any Hogwarts Legacy trophies glitched?

Two can cause trouble but are obtainable, according to PowerPyx: Collector's Edition, which some players still report as stuck after patch 1.04, and The Good Samaritan, where a side quest can rarely break.

Does a PS4 save autopop on PS5?

Yes. PowerPyx confirms save transfer and autopop from PS4 to PS5. Neither works from PS5 back to PS4.

Which Hogwarts Legacy trophy is the rarest?

On Steam it is Collector's Edition at 2.3% (October 11, 2026). Stratege showed no PSN figure for it that day; among trophies with a PSN figure, The Good Samaritan, Spilled Milk and Finishing Touches share the lowest share at 6.2%.
