How to use
- Rest the index and middle finger side by side on the left button; the fingertips should both touch the button.
- Choose a duration. 5 s and 10 s are the comparable standards; try 30 s to see how well you hold the rhythm.
- Click inside the pad — the first click starts the timer — and alternate the fingers: index, middle, index, middle.
- Read the CPS and rank. If the number is far above what your fingers can do, the mouse may be double-clicking on its own (see below).
- Try again for another run; best score stays for the session, Share copies the result as text.
What butterfly clicking is
Butterfly clicking is clicking one mouse button with two fingers that alternate — usually index and middle — so each finger only has to move at half the total rate. Two fingers at a comfortable 8 presses per second each give 16 CPS, which is why the technique dominates the 15–25 CPS range in Minecraft PvP. Unlike jitter clicking it does not need forearm tension, so the hand stays relaxed and the aim stays steady.

Most people's first attempts land around 10–15 CPS; the ceiling is set by how fast the fingers can alternate without one finger landing while the other is still down.
How the test counts, and the double-click catch
The pad counts pointerdown events — every time the button goes down — and divides by the chosen duration; the clock is performance.now(). That is the honest count of what the mouse reported. The catch with butterfly clicking is that the mouse itself may report more clicks than your fingers made.
Two fingers landing in quick succession bounce the switch, and some mice — especially with worn switches or a short firmware debounce — register that bounce as an extra click. This is the same "double-click bug" that makes a mouse open two windows when you click once. On a butterfly test it inflates the number, sometimes dramatically. If you get 30+ CPS and your fingers clearly aren't moving 15 times a second each, run the mouse test on this site: it counts clicks of the same button that arrive faster than 80 ms apart as unwanted double-clicks.

Butterfly is the best trade-off for most players: high CPS, relaxed hand, steady cursor. The price is that it exposes the quality of your mouse switches — and that its click pattern is more regular than jitter, which matters for anti-cheat (next section).
Server rules and bans
Hypixel's rules state that anything which automates a player gameplay action is strictly disallowed, whether Minecraft modifications, external software or hardware, and they list auto/burst clicking buttons and macros as examples. Butterfly clicking is a physical technique and is not named. The grey zone is the mouse: a mouse that double-clicks on its own is hardware producing extra clicks you did not make, and anti-cheat systems judge by the resulting click pattern, not by your intent. Very even 20+ CPS streams with pairs of clicks a few milliseconds apart look like a burst-fire macro. There is no published CPS cap, so forum "ban numbers" are guesses.
Practical advice: butterfly with a mouse that registers clean single clicks, keep the rate where the hits actually register (many players report that hits stop landing above roughly 13 CPS on Hypixel — a cpstest.org figure, not an official one), and treat anything above 20 CPS as a leaderboard number rather than a fighting one. Other servers have their own rules and their own anti-cheat; check before you rely on any technique in ranked play.
