Fortnite 2FA is enabled in your Epic Games account under Password and security. Set up a method, enter its code and check that it becomes active. If Fortnite still asks for 2FA, first check that you secured the account you actually play on.

Check the account first

If you play on PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo, sign in to Epic using that platform's button. Check the displayed name and connected platform. Do not create a second account just to enable 2FA; the setting belongs on your existing game profile.

Our Fortnite name generator can help with a new name, but a display name alone is not proof that you opened the right account. Check the sign-in route and linked platform as well.

Enable the second factor

  1. Open the official Epic Games website and sign in.
  2. Open account settings, then Password and security.
  3. Under two-factor authentication, set up your chosen method.
  4. Enter the code delivered through that method.
  5. Confirm that the method is active. Epic also sends a confirmation email.

Available methods include an authenticator app, SMS and email. If you enable several, use the method menu to choose a primary one. Button labels depend on your language setting.

When Fortnite requires it

Epic lists 2FA as a requirement for sending gifts and entering competitive events. Other event requirements still apply. If a tournament remains locked, read its own eligibility rules rather than repeatedly changing your security settings.

After securing the account, you can work on Fortnite settings or convert your sensitivity. Those settings do not change your 2FA status.

When the game does not recognize it

Epic's support page says this commonly means 2FA was enabled on a different account. Sign out and sign in through the platform you play on. If the browser selects another saved platform profile, try a private window to check the login.

If you see Finish Setting Up Your Account after a console login, the Epic profile may not have its own email address yet. Complete the displayed steps. Epic says this preserves progress and purchases; unlinking your console is not part of that procedure.

Reopen the security page and check the active method. Never give sign-in codes to people offering help in chat. If you contact support, include the platform and exact error, without passwords or codes. Find more setup guides in the Fortnite section.
