Best Fortnite Settings in 2026: FPS, Input Lag and Performance Mode

Rendering Mode, the graphics options worth touching, a frame cap that helps input lag, and what pros actually run — with a separate list for weak PCs.

The Fortnite settings that change your frame rate are a short list: Rendering Mode, 3D Resolution, View Distance, Textures and Meshes. Everything else in the graphics menu is either cosmetic or already off in Performance Mode. Start there, cap your frame rate slightly under what your PC holds in a 40-player endgame, turn NVIDIA Reflex on if you have it, and only then start tuning the small stuff. If your PC is weak, Performance Mode plus 1080p plus low textures is the whole answer, and no launch-option list will beat it.

Rendering Mode is the setting that matters

Fortnite gives you three renderers, and the choice cascades into everything below it. Performance Mode swaps the full Unreal renderer for a much lighter one — a player who instrumented the game with PresentMon in September 2026 describes their own configuration as Performance Mode on the DX11/ES31 path. If your PC is weak

Do these four things in order and stop when the game is playable.

  1. Performance Mode. Nothing else in the menu comes close.
  2. 1080p fullscreen. Resolution is the biggest single lever on GPU load, and Fortnite's competitive standard is 1920x1080 anyway.
  3. View Distance to Medium, everything else Low. Keep View Distance above the floor — you still need to see people.
  4. Cap the frame rate. Pick a number you actually hold. A steady 100 FPS feels better than 60-140.

What will not save you: launch-option lists copied from a video, and third-party "optimizer" or debloat scripts. One r/FortniteCompetitive thread from May 2026 asked exactly this question and the only concrete win reported was RAM timings on an already fast machine — not a settings trick.

Input lag is a separate problem from FPS

Frames per second and the delay between your mouse and the screen are related but not the same.   • Measure, do not guess. PresentMon and NVIDIA FrameView log per-frame timing, which is the only way to tell a real improvement from a placebo.

1080p or 1440p

What the pros run

The pattern is not "everything on low". It is 1080p, a hard frame cap well under the monitor's refresh rate, View Distance kept up, and textures dropped.

Sensitivity, since you are already in the menu

Fortnite states sensitivity as a percentage, which makes it hard to compare with anything. Convert it once: multiply your DPI by the sensitivity as a fraction. Clix at 800 DPI and 8.7% is an eDPI of about 70; Peterbot and Bugha at 800 DPI and 6.4% are both around 51. Before you blame the settings

Two things imitate bad settings. Should I cap my frame rate in Fortnite?

Cap it slightly below what your PC can hold in the worst case, not above. A cap that your PC never reaches does nothing; a cap you constantly bounce off gives you uneven frame times, which is what actually feels bad. Both Clix and Peterbot sit at a 240 FPS cap on 360 Hz monitors.

Is 1440p a mistake for competitive Fortnite?

Not on modern hardware.
